Program Description

The Supply Chain Strategy and Operations Certificate program is based on the graduate level Supply Chain Management concentration in the Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, the top-ranked education program of its kind for 12 consecutive years. The certificate sessions are offered in two 14-week modules. Module 1 runs from February to May and delves into marketing and supply chain management concepts. Module Two runs from August to December and concentrates on supply chain management processes. All sessions are held live, online enabling fully remote participation by individuals and teams from any location with internet access. Program content is delivered through interactive discussions following faculty-led lectures, readings, and simulations. Supply chain management case studies and applications are liberally used throughout both modules. Additionally, participants design and implement a supply chain focused project over the course of the two modules with faculty expertise on hand. The project along with the professional network developed through the certificate program provides an immediate return on the program investment.

Program Differentiator - The Project
A participant-designed project ties both modules together. The project is scoped and developed during the first module; data is refined and analyzed in between modules; and results are presented and reviewed at the conclusion of the second module.

Project criteria include the following checkpoints.

  1. The project represents a potential opportunity that is not currently under investigation by the firm;
  2. The participant illustrates how the project will utilize topics, concepts, and tools within the scope of the Supply Chain Management Certificate; and,
  3. Successful completion of the project presents potential for the company to reduce costs, increase revenues, increase quality and/or reduce cycle times.

Results of the project provide a tangible, net benefit to the sponsoring company or individual, reciprocating the investment of time and resources in the
program several times over.
